What is .museum?

.museum is a Top Level Domain (TLD) created exclusively for the museum community. ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has approved .museum as a Top-Level Domain. The Museum Domain Management Association (MuseDoma) administers the museum registry.

.museum works just like the more traditional .com, .net or .org domains, but because it is new, there are vastly more available domain names that can be registered. Museums can register .museum domain names, when available, and use them for their email and web sites.

.museum Restrictions:

The TLD, .museum, is restricted to museums, museum organizations and individual members of the museum profession. The restrictions are based upon the definition of a museum, as adopted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), in the .museum charter.

How our .museum registration process will work:

1. Complete the .museum registration process on our web site to request the specific .museum names you would like to register.
2. We submit your .museum domain requests directly to the .museum registry.
3. Once the domain name(s) you requested are registered, we will notify you by confirmation email.
4. We will charge your credit card for your new .museum domain names. The cost for each .museum domain name will be:
   • $200.00 for a 2 year registration term
   • $300.00 for a 3 year registration term
   • $400.00 for a 4 year registration term
   • $500.00 for a 5 year registration term
   • $600.00 for a 6 year registration term
   • $700.00 for a 7 year registration term
   • $800.00 for a 8 year registration term
   • $900.00 for a 9 year registration term
   • $1000.00 for a 10 year registration term
